Something I quickly learned as a photographer is that there are life moments that are so much more greater than simply “capturing an image.” Being able to document these moments creatively is where the pure magic lies. As I look through my lens, it instantly becomes a window into a world filled with love, laughter and the beauty of life unfolding. I’ve been so fortunate to document this growing family numerous times. Each session with them is an adventure, filled with spontaneity and genuine emotion. This time, however, was particularly special, as it marked Emersyn’s first birthday!

As I was preparing the set ups for Emersyn’s session, I couldn’t help but look back on the journey I have had the privilege to be a part of! From first meeting the Dale’s when they arrived at the studio for Oaklyn’s newborn session, to capturing the bliss of baby #2 pregnancy announcement, to the chaotic joy of wrangling Oaklyn for family portraits, each moment I feel so honored the Dale’s trust me to capture. And now, here we are, celebrating the first year of Emersyn’s life! She is beyond precious with a very calm and relaxing demeanor next to Oaklyn’s whirlwind of energy and mischief, but always bellowing a sweet laughter that fills the room. When it came time for the cake, Emersyn quickly smashed her hands into it, giggling as she smeared frosting across her face. It’s no secret she loves cake, which was such a joy to capture!

As we wrapped up the session, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to be a small part of this special family’s memories over the last few years. I know I have said this time and time again, but returning clients really is the best compliment I could ever ask for. Even if it means sweating my tush off running after a wild 3 year old (haha), it’s all worth it to see this sweet family and to preserve the love they have for one another!
