{A Recap of Our May}
It feels a little funny sitting down to write about May when we’re already so far into June. Honestly, May already feels like ancient history, but I’ve finally found a moment where I can share the images that shaped our month. Every year, this month seems to arrive with a packed calendar and a warning that life is about to get busy. School activities, concerts, graduations, sports, dance, birthdays…it all seems to happen at once. This year was no exception!
At the beginning of the month, Eden and Oren participated in Pioneer Day as second graders. They both worked so hard on their projects and were excited to show them off. Oren created a log cabin while Eden made homemade bread and butter. Getting to see them dressed in period clothing and fully embracing the experience had me reminiscing about Liella’s Pioneer Day. I swear, it was just yesterday when she was in second grade!
The second weekend of the month, we headed to Ankeny for the Breakthrough T1D Walk in support of my niece, Evey. This event is quickly becoming such a meaningful tradition for our family, and it was a beautiful day from start to finish. We lucked out with incredible weather and, as always, the kids were thrilled to spend time with their cousins. One of the highlights for them was getting the opportunity to be part of a small recap video during the event. It doesn’t take much to make kids feel like celebrities, and they thought that was pretty exciting!
Another highlight from May was soccer season for Oren. This was his very first year playing, and to say he loved it would be an understatement! He looked forward to every practice and game, and it was so much fun watching his confidence grow throughout the season. Whether he was chasing the ball down the field or enjoying time with his teammates, his excitement was contagious. I have a feeling this won’t be his last year on the soccer field!
As much as I love having photos to look back on, there were several meaningful moments throughout the month that never made it in front of my camera. Liella wrapped up her first year of band and choir with her final concerts of the school year, and we celebrated a couple of graduations for a niece and nephew. Sometimes life moves too quickly to document every moment, but those celebrations were important parts of the month nonetheless.
We ended May with dance recital weekend, which always feels like the grand finale of the school year. Watching Liella and Eden take the stage and perform routines they had worked on all year was such a fun moment seeing all the growth they’ve made. The confidence they continue to build through dance is one of my favorite things to watch!
And after all the activities, concerts, practices, and celebrations, we ended the month celebrating Joe’s birthday. Nothing extravagant, just a low-key celebration at home, which honestly was the perfect way to end a busy month.
Looking back, May wasn’t filled with any huge milestones or life-changing moments. Instead, it was made up of the ordinary things that end up becoming some of the sweetest memories: school projects, family gatherings, cousin time, concerts, dance recitals, birthday cake, and cheering our kids on as they continue to grow! The calendar may have felt overwhelming at times, but looking back now, I wouldn’t trade a minute of it!
Until next month…
