{A Recap of Our January}
January is always a big month in our house…and this year was no exception. It’s birthday month for all of our kiddos, which means the calendar fills up fast and our hearts (and stomachs) do too!
We kicked things off celebrating cousin’s birthday at the YMCA, which felt like the perfect way to set the tone for the month. When you start January with a party at the Y, you know it’s going to be a good one! Big birthday month energy from the very beginning!
The slower days in between celebrations were spent mostly indoors…lots of cozy time at home, plenty of Lego builds happening around the house, and soaking up the quieter moments that winter brings.
Then came full birthday mode…and when I say full, I mean nine straight days of celebrating!!!
It all started with Liella’s birthday. She was lucky enough to have the day off from school, which made it feel extra special. We took her out to dinner at Cinco that night, one of her favorite restuarants. The next morning, we continued the fun with a cousin breakfast (not pictured, but very much enjoyed).
The following week brought a big and meaningful moment for Eden and Oren, their First Reconciliation, which happened the day before their birthday. We celebrated both milestones together (yes, at Cinco again…clearly a theme this month ). The next day was their actual birthday, complete with cake, presents, and all the after-school excitement that comes with turning another year older.
This year, we decided to try something new and host their very first friend birthday party…and of course, it had to be a pool party at the Y (taking cues from our cousins)! The Y made everything so easy and effortless, which I appreciated more than I can put into words. If you’re ever considering a friend party, I can’t recommend it enough!!
And finally, the grand finale to birthday season, celebrating with grandparents, a tradition we hold onto every single year. My mom once again made the cakes, and they were absolutely phenomenal! This year’s themes…Minecraft, Wicked, and Orange Princess. The kids bring her pictures, and somehow she manages to recreate them perfectly…and they taste just as incredible. And trust me, as someone who doesn’t even really like cake, my mom’s cakes are truly top notch. This year’s lineup included orange, white, and strawberry flavors, and by the end of the month, we were officially drowning in cake!
But honestly? So worth it, to celebrate our greatest adventures!
January may leave us tired, sugar-loaded, and surrounded by tons of leftovers…but it also fills our home with so much joy and laughter. A month that is notorious for being slow, quiet and, may I even say boring…for us, has turned into one we’ll always love, and one we’ll happily do all over again next year.
