{A Purple Newborn Session}
There are a lot of perks to being a newborn photographer, but getting to photograph your own family has to be one of my favorites. Meet my newest great-niece, Sophia!
This sweet girl completely stole my heart before we even got started. And honestly? She may have been the easiest newborn I’ve ever photographed. Sophia slept through her entire session. The ENTIRE thing!!! If you’re a newborn photographer reading this, you know that’s basically the dream. We finished her session in under three hours, and she was content from beginning to end.
When we started planning her session, we chose purple tones, and they ended up being absolutely perfect for her. The color complemented her beautiful skin tone and dark hair so well that every setup came together effortlessly. Sometimes you have a vision in your head and it turns out even better than you imagined.
One of my favorite parts of the day had nothing to do with the photos, though. Liella came along with me to help, and from the moment she met Sophia, she was completely obsessed. In her defense, they do share the same middle name, so in Liella’s mind that makes them pretty much best friends already. 😀 Watching her hold Sophia, talk about her, and beam with excitement over every little detail was so incredibly sweet.
And then there’s big sister Josie. I already know these two girls are going to make so many memories together. There’s something special about watching a family grow and seeing new relationships begin before they even realize it. Right now, Sophia is tiny enough to sleep through an entire photo session, but before long, she’ll be running around with Josie, making messes, sharing secrets, and creating the kind of sister memories that last a lifetime.
As much as I love the images from this session, what makes them meaningful to me is what they represent. They’re the beginning of Sophia’s story. The beginning of her relationship with her big sister. The beginning of memories she’ll never remember herself but that her family will treasure forever. And for me, that’s always what photography has been about. Not just documenting what someone looked like, but preserving the people, relationships, and moments that make up a life.
Welcome to the family, sweet Sophia! You are loved more than you’ll ever know!
