{Osage High School Senior Session}

Sometimes the best sessions begin with a road trip! Ivy and her mom traveled all the way from Osage with one goal in mind: creating senior portraits that felt different. And I have to say… I think we accomplished exactly that!

When we started planning her session, there was one location at the very top of their wishlist…The Grotto in West Bend. They had heard so much about it but had never experienced it in person. Watching them take it all in for the first time was almost as fun as taking the photos themselves! The craftsmanship is incredible! Every stone, every pathway, every detail tells a story, and it created such a timeless backdrop for Ivy’s senior portraits. It’s one of those places that makes you slow down for a minute and appreciate the beauty that was created with so much intention.

We also wandered through both West Bend and Algona, finding little pockets of beauty along the way. One of my favorite stops? Something that tends to be iconic with West Bend’s downtown scene…a wall completely covered in ivy. I mean… how could we not? Some opportunities are simply too perfect to pass up!

As the evening came to a close, we made our way to a flower field just in time for sunset. The soft, glowy light and the colorful blooms created some of my favorite images from the entire session! Beautiful locations aside, my favorite part of every senior session is getting to know the person in front of my camera. And Ivy is exactly the kind of person who quietly leaves an impression. She’s soft-spoken, kind, and the type of person who doesn’t need to be the center of attention to make you notice her. The more we talked throughout the evening, the more I learned about the things that matter most to her. She’s involved in FFA, golf, and wrestling, and recently stepped into the role of FFA chapter president…a leadership position that says so much about the respect she’s earned from those around her.

One of my favorite details she brought to her session was a vintage Iowa State pennant that belonged to her dad when he was a child. Knowing both of her parents are Iowa State alumni made that little detail feel even more meaningful. And next year, Ivy plans to continue that family legacy as she heads to Iowa State herself to study Ag Business.

I love little details like that! Not because they’re props. But because they tell a story! They remind us that our lives are connected to the people who came before us, and sometimes the smallest items carry the biggest memories.

Beyond school and leadership, Ivy also has an incredible competitive side. Last year she qualified for the Iowa Girls State Wrestling Tournament, and she’s already working toward making it back during her senior year. Anyone who has ever competed in a sport knows achievements like that don’t happen by accident. They come from early mornings, hard work, discipline, and perseverance.

As I look through these images, I see so much more than a beautiful senior session! I see a young woman who values family, works hard, leads with humility, and isn’t afraid to chase big goals. Ivy, thank you for making the trip and trusting me with such an important season of your life! It was such a joy getting to know you, and I have no doubt you’re going to do incredible things in the years ahead! I can’t wait to see where your story leads next!!
