{An Annual Wedding Catering Tasting Event at Columbia Events Center | Algona, Iowa}

It’s that time again…one of my favorite events of the year is back! And after eight years of photographing Kampen’s Catering Tasting Event, I can confidently say it’s one I look forward to every single time!

Each year, this event continues to raise the bar…not just for the food (which is always incredible), but for the entire experience. Kampen’s creates something truly special for their couples, transforming the evening into a full mock wedding reception at the Columbia Events Center. It’s more than just a tasting, it’s a chance for couples to fully step into what their wedding day could feel like.

Guests are invited to sample a wide variety of dishes, thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented, helping them confidently choose the perfect menu for their big day. But what really sets this event apart is how seamlessly it brings together so many talented vendors to create one cohesive, elevated experience.

This year’s event featured such an amazing lineup of vendors. The space was brought to life with stunning details and thoughtful design, creating an atmosphere that felt both inspiring and completely personalized. From the delicious desserts to the music setting the tone for the evening, every element worked together so effortlessly:

One of the standout details I always love is the way Something Blue personalized each table. They connected with every couple ahead of time, asking for their wedding Pinterest boards, and then brought those visions to life in their tablescape designs. It gave each couple a tangible, beautiful glimpse of what their own wedding day decor could look like…and it was so fun to see each table feel completely different and uniquely them.

Hailey B’s Bakery added such a thoughtful (and delicious) touch by sending each couple home with an adorable cake tasting-for-two box. It’s such a fun way for couples to continue the experience together after the event, savoring those flavors and dreaming up their perfect wedding cake.

And of course, Katie from Mojo Productions is always such a steady, welcoming presence throughout the evening. She’s there to answer questions, guide couples through the flow of a reception, and her introductions are truly unmatched. She brings such a sense of ease and confidence to the entire experience.

One of my favorite parts of this event, year after year, is seeing the intentionality behind every detail. Kampen’s doesn’t just serve amazing food (though they absolutely do…every single time). They create an experience that allows their couples to feel confident, cared for, and genuinely excited about their wedding day decisions. It’s no surprise they continue to be such a sought-after catering team in our area.

And for me, getting to document it all never gets old. Being surrounded by such talented vendors and so many excited couples stepping into this season of planning is something I don’t take lightly. It’s always such a joy to reconnect with familiar faces and meet new ones along the way.
