{Questions Most Brides Don’t Think To Ask}
When searching for the perfect wedding photographer, there are many obvious questions most brides ask to find out if the photographer is a right fit BUT there are several questions most brides should be asking but never think to! These questions are so important because they help you, the bride, have a better understanding of expectations and the knowledge of what happens if certain situations were too arise. Thankfully, I’m here to lay it all out for you!
1. What happens if you cannot photograph our day?
In this day and age, this should be one of brides’ first questions to their wedding photographer! Navigating through a world wide pandemic means the chances your photographer may not make your day is slightly higher! No worries though! If your photographer is a professional, readily available backups with similar photography styles should be in their back pocket. Ask your photographer who they are and exactly what procedures will take place to make sure you receive the same level of work. It doesn’t hurt to research the backups either!
2. When will the final gallery and album be delivered?
We’ve all heard the horror stories before! Brides never receive images or albums until several months or even a year+ after the big day! Your photographer should be very clear when final delivery of all products will be from the beginning. Ask specifics about editing timelines and the album design process.
3. Can we see a full wedding gallery or album?
Scrolling through a photographer’s website or social media gives you a good idea of the style and caliber of work BUT, if you want a full grasp of what your investing into, then peeking at a full gallery or album will give you a better idea of exactly what you will receive after the wedding day.
4. Do you have insurance?
This is a major question that many brides do not ask! Situations and accidents can occur and it’s imperative that a professional photographer carries insurance. I know we don’t like to think about the “what ifs” but having peace of mind is worth something knowing there is coverage if Aunt Betty trips over the photographer’s bag or equipment and files are stolen. Yes, I know colleagues who’s entire equipment and files have been stolen before!
5. Can we get references?
Brides should treat hiring a photographer like a job interview! You may be investing a large sum of money so why not make sure you are getting the most out of it? Ask if you can speak to previous brides and grooms to get a good feel on the entire experience from their perspective. What did they love about the photographer, what could the photographer do to improve and would you hire again?
6. How can we get to know YOU?
I love this question and most brides virtually NEVER ask their photographer! Your photographer is the one vendor you are spending 8+ hours with on one of the most important days of your life. You’re probably spending more time with your photographer than your groom! Get to know him or her! Find out if her personality vibes with yours. Can you see yourself being friends with her? When I come to your wedding day I want you to feel like an old friend is photographing your day. The entire day will be more enjoyable and you will be more relaxed knowing you are having fun hanging out with friends instead of following orders from a stranger. You can get to know me more through the personal section on my blog OR let’s grab coffee or margs sometime! I love both!
My goal is to help you navigate through the wedding vendor hiring process with ease. I want you to get the most out of your money while having an incredible experience! After all, you only plan to get married once and I want it to be the best day ever!
